A property purchase is usually the largest contract most people sign. Knowing which protections you have — and when they expire — makes the difference.

Attorney review period

In Illinois, residential contracts usually include a short attorney review period. Use it: it's the easiest time to change terms.

Inspection contingency

Defects discovered during inspection can justify repairs, credits or walking away — but only within the contract deadline.

Title commitment

Read the exceptions list. Easements, liens and restrictions listed there will survive closing unless they're resolved.
